Hello everyone, this is a complete tutorial on JavaScript. Watch the video on our youtube channel.

What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is a scripting language that is widely used nowadays. Also shortened as JS. JavaScript makes a website more interactive that is useful for interacting with the user. The best thing with JavaScript is it can be used in front-end development as well as Back-end Development. The front end is a user interface of a website where the user is interacting with a web page e.g. We are visiting a website like Wikipedia.org. We will see the content and other things on the website, it is known as the front end of a website. The development of the front end side of the website is known as Front End Development.
And back end is a part of a website from where the website will take data from servers. And it comes under Back End Development. We will see them in brief in another blog.

History of JavaScript

Tim Berners Lee made the first browser World Wide Web Browser in 1990. Which was simple without javaScript. Javascript was created by Brendan Eich in 1995 when he was working at Netscape.

Javascript was firstly released with Netscape 2 web browser in 1996. And very soon Netscape Navigator became the most valuable web browser.

Naming of JavaScript

Firstly Javascript was called Mocha after it was changed to LiveScript. And because Sun Microsystem’s Java language was popular at that time so the name was changed to JavaScript.

Documentation of JavaScript – ECMAScript

A few times later Microsoft released a new scripting language JScript with Internet Explorer 3 browser.

Due to the growth of JavaScript, there started a need for proper documentation of the language. And Netscape asked for ECMA(European Computer Manufacturers Association) which has developed standards since 1961.

First ECMA specifications were added with JavaScript under the release of ECMA262. ECMA262 had three revisions from 1997 to 1999 and the fourth version was abandoned.

ECMAScript 5 was launched in December 2009 nowadays web browsers are supporting up to ES5.

ECMAScript 6 launched in 2015.

And ECMAScript 2016, shortened ES7 was released in 2016 with no major changes.

ECMAScript 8 was launched in 2017.

ECMAScript 9 was launched in 2018.

ECMAScript 10 was launched in 2019.

The 11th and the latest version of ECMAScript was launched last year in 2020.

That’s all for this blog. We will cover the next blog on IDE & Text Editors for coding.
